International Human Rights Day

14:16 14 December in BHS NEWS, Braemar News

On December 10, students in Grade 3 to 7 assembled in the gym to watch and learn more about International Human Rights Day. This day is celebrated every December 10 around the world, because that is when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was presented to the world.

First, the Grade 5 class provided an introduction to the historical background for Human Rights, through a quick presentation on the Magna Carta, then they shared the Preamble of the UDHR, which encourages every individual to become informed, teach and educate others about it. This was followed by skits by the Grade 8 class, on various articles from the UDHR such as the right to marry, freedom from torture, freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial and copyright. The grade 5 students then shared with the audience some selected articles from the Convention on the Rights of the Child, through a few short and well-executed skits.

The presentation was well received and with it, Braemar House School was able to join other schools and community groups around the world celebrating this important annual event. Well done, students!
