ARTS PROGRAMMING

Braemar's Arts programs (Visual Arts, Music and Drama) are delivered with one Arts focus each term to ensure stronger and more focused programming. This scheduling allows for greater depth, more effective resource allocation, and a shared concentration in a two hour uninterrupted Arts period.

The Visual Arts focus provides students with the opportunity to work with a variety of design medium in all grades. Specialized programs include Grade 3 and 5 Pottery, Grade 7 and 8 Glass Mosaics, and our Legion Poster Contest pieces. Special guest artists visit classes to share their knowledge and talents with our students. This culminates in the Braemar Art Show in December. Parents, grandparents and friends will join our students in viewing their wonderful art creations in an Art Gallery setting, socializing over Christmas treats in the spirit of the season.

Music programming at Braemar is filled with opportunities for students to develop skills in a number of instruments, including guitar and percussion lessons for the Grade 7 and 8 classes. In addition, there is exposure to other instruments throughout the grades (Grade 3 Orff, Grade 4 Recorder, Grade 5 Keyboards, and Grade 6 Ukulele). For younger students there is choral work, learning of the hand signs and development of their voices. This variety of musical experiences concludes with the Braemar Music Recital.

Drama classes are intended to develop self confidence, communication and theatrical skills. Individual and group activities provide an opportunity for students to express themselves orally and creatively. Our students are given significant opportunity to demonstrate their remarkable drama talents. Braemar’s Grade 7 students explore the work of Shakespeare and complete it with a performance.

Each year all students in all grades participate in the culminating enriched experience of our annual Spring Musical. We have produced thirteen major theatrical productions over the past fourteen years.
